Lisa Strömbeck is a Copenhagen based artist. Her work spans the medium of photography, video and installation and embraces the contradictions of love, possession, and power. A recurring theme is the hierarchies between humans and other animals, where her works trigger empathy for the less fortunate.

“A friend of mine tried to convince me about reincarnation. It wasn’t easy, but when I thought I might have lived as a dog in all my previous lives, reincarnation seemed possible. That would explain why I love to be around dogs, whether they are my own or stray dogs. My other great interest is human psychology, which makes dogs more interesting than other animals, since they are completely de- signed by us to fulfil our needs. You get a diagnosis of the Western World right now, by observing which breeds are popular. Today most people want tenderness and physical contact. In my In Bed series, I try to describe that intimacy：skin to fur, body to body. The Uniform series show the darker side of human beings. Those who lie about how much they love animals, when they only mean their own pet, as they neglect the suffering of the poor animals who lived to become the fur coat.”
